MIXED MARTIAL ARTS
Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) combines striking, takedowns, and grappling. In this program, students will learn all aspects of MMA through detailed technique, pad work, and optional sparring. Roberto Kaelin instructs the class and has 5 years of Muay Thai Kickboxing experience, as well as black belts in Karate, Judo, and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu.
STRIKING
Muay Thai Kickboxing and some aspects of karate will be utilized to teach students how to attack with and defend strikes. Combinations using punches, kicks, knee strikes, and elbow strikes will be used. Students will train with pads, a life-sized dummy, and with each other during sparring sessions.
TAKEDOWNS
Judo will be used to teach students how to combine striking with takedowns in order to take the fight to the ground. Various throws and sweeps will be used to teach students how to get close to your opponent when punches/kicks are being used by an opponent.
GROUNDWORK
No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu is taught for the for grappling portion of our MMA program. Students will learn how to strike from a dominant position on the ground, how to escape dangerous positions, as well as how to submit an opponent via chokes and joint locks (armbars, kneebars, shoulder locks, etc).
All levels of experience are welcome. Students should wear a t-shirt and shorts. If you choose to participate in sparring, a mouth guard and shin guards are recommended. Head gear will always be provided. All students must purchase MMA gloves. Gloves can be found online or at your local sporting goods store for, on average, $30. Come in any time for two free trial classes - see you training soon!
